Randall Marc Baker, 68, passed away peacefully at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines, IA on Tuesday, April 27, 2021. Randy was the son of Ralph F. and Marjorie A. Baker. He was born in Winterset, IA on April 4, 1953.

Randy lived in Winterset for the first 12 years of his life. In the fall of 1965, his family moved to Indianola, where he graduated from Indianola High School in 1971. Sports were his passion, and Randy participated and excelled in baseball, basketball, and football. He attended Simpson College for 2 years and participated in both football and baseball, then entered the work force in the construction industry as a heavy-machine operator. He eventually, was employed as a truck driver for the McAninch Corporation in Des Moines.

His favorite pastimes included hunting, fishing, and attending athletic activities at the high school and college level. He loved to fish with his best friend, Murray Clevenger. He took several trips each fall to South Dakota pheasant hunting with his brother, Gary, and several friends, a highlight he eagerly looked forward to. He loved to work his bird dogs and especially enjoyed the young puppies.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Jr. and Marjorie Baker; grandparents, Willis and Beatrice Clark and Ralph Sr. and Velma Baker.

Survivors include brothers, Gary (Paula), Dan (Betsey) and Greg (Linda); sisters, Jayne (Randy) Hopkins, Jill (Steve) Arneson and Julie (Erik) Methlie; along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be held 5 to 7 p.m., Saturday, May 8 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Inurnment will take place at a later date. Memorials may be given to Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines in Randy’s name.

Randy’s family would like to thank Lutheran Hospital, Trinity Center and the Taylor House Hospice for the excellent care Randy received.
