Wanda Neuenkirk, 72, of Winterset, passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2021, at Unity Point Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.
Wanda was born in St. Ignatius, Montana on April 24, 1948 to Floyd and Dorothy (Rose) Heckathorn. Her early life was spent in California before moving to Washington then to Oregon, where she graduated from McLoughlin High School in 1966. She took a year of business classes in Walla Walla while she enjoyed working at a company that published yearbooks in the tri-cities. In 1968, she moved back to California and worked at Bank of America in Menlo Park as an NCR operator and later head cashier, a job she really enjoyed. She worked several odd jobs but most enjoyed being a homemaker and taking care of their children and grandchildren.
Wanda and Francis Neuenkirk were married June 21, 1969 at Reno, NV. They settled in California for 3 years before moving to Iowa. They lived in Gilbert, Cambridge and in 1977 they settled in Winterset.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Francis; children, Sean (Tina), Chris (Renee), Nathan (Tara) and Shari (Mike); 11 grandchildren, Ambre (Dave), Montana (Sam), Dalton, Brian, Chelsie, Cheyenne, Joseph, Sierra, Tristen, Sandra and Journey; 6 great-grandchildren, Hayley, Gavin, Emmalyn, Hudson, Camden, and Finnlee; her siblings, Floyd Leo Heckathorn (Jackie), Ronald Heckathorn (Louella), Gail Mattson, and half-sister, Patricia Stevenson. She will also be fondly remembered by numerous extended relatives and friends.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Dorothy Rose Heckathorn.
Family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 10th, 2021 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, Winterset Chapel, where funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in the McGinnis Cemetery, Madison County. Memorials may be made to the family for a future designation.
