The Winterset News
Winterset, Iowa
Thursday, January 30, 1890
Page 4, Column 4Harry Smith, a bright and popular young man, 25 years old, born in Winterset, and residing here all his life, died Sunday morning at 5:30. He had been sick with the Influenza for some time and a sudden relapse took place terminating in his death. The news of his death caused great sorrow in the city where he had hosts of friends and to whom the news came unexpectedly. He seemed to have a premonition of death for when Dr. Davisson, the family physician was called in, he told him that he was going to die. Thought the doctor tried to laugh him out of his fears he yet insisted that he would die and it was only too true.
The deceased was a deservedly popular young man, bright, strong and of a cherry, happy disposition. He was on the threshold of a busy and active life and had all the advantages that a young man could have asked. He was an active and prominent Mason and a member of the Presbyterian church of this city.
The funeral took place Monday afternoon from the residence of his mother, Mrs. A. B. Smith and was largely attended, Rev. Herring, pastor of the Presbyterian church officiating.
