Winterset, IowaSterling Morris, 65, of Winterset, suffered a brain hemorrhage December 29, 2020 and passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at Kavanagh House in Des Moines.
A private family graveside service will be held at the Winterset Cemetery on February 9, 2021. A memorial service will be held at a later date due to Covid 19.
Sterling was born on March 23, 1955 in Winterset, Iowa to George and Maxine (Shorb) Morris. He enjoyed growing up on the family farm and being involved in 4-H and showing his projects at the Madison County fair. He was a 1973 graduate of Winterset High School and attended Central College and Iowa State University. After graduating from Central College, he returned home to farm. He was united in marriage to Sally Anderson on August 11, 1984.
Sterling was a member of the Winterset First United Methodist Church. He was an active member of the Madison County Sportsman Club, Madison County Republicans and Central Iowa Practical Shooters. He served several terms on the Heartland Co-Op Board of Directors as Board Secretary and as Township Trustee for Webster township of Madison county.
He was an avid non-fiction reader and loved to match wits in debate. He enjoyed the outdoors observing nature, bird watching, hunting and visiting our state and county parks with Sally. Farming was his vocation. He was a dedicated red angus cattle producer and throughout his life a sincere steward of the land that he farmed.
Sterling was a very loving and supportive husband and a very caring friend to his friends.
He is survived by his wife, Sally Morris of Winterset; brother, Craig F. Morris of Pullman, WA; nieces, Elizabeth Grace Morris and Ana Sawyer Morris and their mother Kay Morris; aunt, Barbara Rollins, and brother-in-law, Mark Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Maxine Morris; grandparents, Sydney and Pearl Morris and Franklin and Elsie Shorb; aunts, Mable Sprunger and Margaret Clark; uncles, Bill Sprunger and Wendell Rollins.
Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church of Winterset or the Madison County Sportsman Club. Online condolences may be left at caldwellparrish.com.
Burial will be in the Winterset Cemetery.
