Donna Travis

Maxwell - Donna Lou Travis, 90 of Maxwell, died Sunday, January 31, 2021, at Prairie Vista Village in Altoona.

Donna was born April 12, 1930, in Des Moines, the daughter of Lester G. and Marguerite (Archer) Frey. She graduated from Winterset High School in 1947 and later that year she was united in marriage to Ernest Junior Travis. Donna graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in elementary education. She worked for the Maxwell Hatchery and Feed Store, Travis Realty and Insurance and was a long-time substitute teacher.

Donna was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Wally Byam Caravan Club. She was a founding member of the Maxwell Museum. Donna especially enjoyed traveling with Ernie towing their Airstream trailer. She was able to visit all seven continents and 53 countries around the world. Donna was an avid quilter and seamstress and would attend craft shows with her daughter-in-law Cheryl Travis to sell what she had created.

Donna is survived by her sons, Mark (Pam) Travis of Maxwell and Wade (Harriet) Travis of Pleasant Hill; her grandchildren: Sean (Darcy) Travis, Matt (Julee) Travis, Tammy (Mike) Fritchnitch, Matt (Katie) Larson, Jenny (Todd) Redlin, Deanne (Mark) Sandbulte, Will (Amy) Larson, Ryan (Anna) Travis and Laurie (Mat) Giffis; and eighteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sons, David Travis and Corey Travis (in infancy); and her sister, Barbara Hannah.

A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 3, 2021, at the Maxwell Cemetery in Maxwell with Pastor Jerry Swanberg officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Maxwell Museum in memory of Donna.

Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home in Maxwell is handling arrangements.
