Graveside services for Howard Vernon Speer, 83, West Plains, formerly of Branson, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6 1997, at Howell Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Whelchel Funeral Chapel, Branson, with Brother Hillard Story officiating.

Mr. Speer Died 11:04 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 3 1997, at Ozarks Medical Center, West Plains. He was born March 14, 1914, at Indianola, Iowa, the son of Otis and Nellie Speer.

On March 24, 1938, he married Thelma Ada McDonald.

He owned and operated Speer Roofing Company at Branson for many years before moving to West Plains in 1990.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma, of the family home; three daughters, Delores Maguire and husband, John, Sheparton, Australia, Jan McGoldrick and husband, Tom, West Plains, and Nellie Thomas and husband, Marc, Sevierville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Sean and Kerry Maguire, Sheparton, Australia, and Ann Marie Newberry and husband, Mike, West Plains, and Josie Jones, Sevierville, Tenn.; one brother, Ernest Speer and wife, Mina, Winterset, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Pearl Speer, Winterset, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Warren and Arthur.
