Beryl Allen Kenworthy

Beryl Allen Kenworthy was born on the Kenworthy farm in rural Earlham, Iowa on November 27th, 1918, and passed away on January 1, 2021 at the Community Care Center, in Stuart, Iowa, at the age of 102. He was the son of Allen and Verda (Mills) Kenworthy. In 1940 Beryl married Avis Compton Kenworthy at the Little Brown Church, and moved her to the family farm to live with him and his mother. On that same farm, they raised their daughter Margaret (Peg), and son Richard (Dick).

Beryl attended Earlham Community School and graduated in 1936. In his high school years he was a stand-out football player, and went on to become a stand-out farmer. He was a proud member of the unbeaten and unscored on 1935-36 football team. He was very active not only on the family farm, but also in the town of Earlham. He was a member of the School Board for 18 years and was honored as a Melvin Jones Fellow in the Earlham Lion’s Club. He was a birthright member of the Earlham Friends Church and served as a trustee for the Church for most of his adult life. He also served as the Clerk of Adams Township for 42 years.

Over the course of his life, Beryl experienced buckboard wagons to the World Wide Web and everything in-between. He braved it all as the years came and went, and relished relaying the stories of his life to anyone who wanted to hear them. Beryl’s priorities were his faith, family, farm and community. He had unwavering allegiances to John Deere, Pioneer seed corn being a dealer for many years, homemade ice cream, and a deep appreciation for a hard day’s labor, albeit not without an afternoon nap. However, he insisted on being done with the day’s work in time to eat dinner with his family and spend the evening watching Lawrence Welk, swinging in his porch swing, playing pitch, or finding some other means of relaxing.

Beryl and Avis loved to travel. As a family, and with friends, they covered hundreds of miles on adventures and vacations, even making a memorable trip to Kenya, East Africa.

Beryl is survived by his children Peg (Jeff) Lorimor and Dick (Patti) Kenworthy, his grandchildren Richard Lorimor, Ramon Lorimor, Nina Lorimor-Easley, Wes (Jess) Reynolds and Rachel (Tim) Turnbull. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren Kacey (Logan) Greif, Clay Reynolds, Zaiden Easley, Marlo (Sara) Morgan and their daughter Aaliyah, Claire Lorimor, Tassew and Yetta Lorimor, and Kameron and Ashton Turnbull.

Beryl was preceded in death by his parents Allen and Verda Kenworthy, his brothers Bruce and Troy Kenworthy, and his beloved wife Avis Kenworthy.

Memorials may be contributed to the Earlham Friends Church, the Earlham School Quarterback Club, or the Hospice Room at the Stuart Care Center. A private graveside service will be held soon, and a homemade ice cream celebration of life will be held in the summer.
