Joanne J. (Wilkinson) Benson

Joanne J. (Wilkinson) Benson of Winterset passed away on Friday, November 20, 2020 at Azria Health Winterset, at the age of 89.

She was born in Winterset, Iowa on October 20, 1931, the daughter of Alvie and Laura (Gosewich) Wilkinson.

Joanne spent most of her life in Winterset. She graduated from Winterset High School and attended Area XI community college. In 1950, she married Rex Victor Benson and they had two daughters, Irmalee and Beverly. She and Vic spent several years in Alaska where Vic worked for Green Construction, building interior roads and also airstrips for the Air Force. When they returned to Winterset, they bought the home where they would live their lives together for seventy years.

Joanne was a homemaker. She also worked for a time at the Madison County Sheriff’s office and the dental office of J.L. Larsen. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Winterset.

She is survived by her daughters, Irmalee (Mike) Klemm and Beverly (Rich) Kolle; two grandchildren, Jason Klemm and Laura Chiarito; two great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marilyn Wilkinson; and several nieces and nephews.

Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, Alvie and Laura; her husband, Vic; a grandson, Eric; sisters, Sharon Stark and Mary Ann Brooker; and twin brothers, Herbert and Hubert Wilkinson.
