Lee Clark Tidrick, Winterset

Lee Clark Tidrick, 86, died Nov. 2, 2020, in Winterset, Iowa.

Lee was born in Winterset on Dec. 27, 1933. He was a proud member of the 1951 graduating class of Winterset High School, and then joined the Air Force at the age of 17. He was stationed in Japan before his 18th birthday, and spent two years there.

In 1954, after returning to the States, he met a Denison girl, Theresa Hunter, when he was 21, got engaged on Christmas Eve in 1954, and they were married July 16, 1955. He graduated from Drake University in 1959, and had two sons, Jeffrey Dean and Scott Lee. Lee then moved to California in 1960 and became a pharmacist, settling in Pomona, Calif. He and Theresa completed their family with the birth of their daughter, Lori Marie. He went on to own a string of pharmacies in Pomona, while moving to Placentia, Calif., in 1970.

Lee was a dynamic spirit; he had his pilot license and owned airplanes; he owned race horses, was an avid gun collector and loved to hunt and fish throughout the world. He was described as a “huntsman’s hunter.” Later in life he and Teri crisscrossed the country in a motorhome. After 44 years in California, Lee and Teri returned to their roots to live in Winterset. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

Lee was the life of any party, with an amazing sense of humor and an electric smile. He’s a man who everyone felt was his best friend. He would do anything for anyone at any time. He was well known in Pomona for being the pharmacist that would help people in need. He set records for donating blood.

He is the last remaining member of the Tidrick family in Winterset.

He is survived by his wife and three children, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a big group of loving friends.

A memorial for Lee will be planned in spring. He will be laid to rest in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, Iowa.
