Helen Ruth Ballard

Helen Ruth Ballard, daughter of Paul Eugene Deer and Gladys Grace (Scovel) Deer was born May 20, 1925 in Runnells, Iowa, and passed from this life Friday, November 13, 2020 at the home of her daughter near St. Charles, surrounded by her family at 95 years of age.

Helen grew up in the Runnells, Iowa area and graduated from Runnells High School with the class of 1942. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Nathan Ballard on November 15, 1942 at Albany, MO and seven children blessed this union. Helen and Kenny lived in Des Moines before moving to New Virginia in 1957 and then to the St. Charles area in 1993. Helen was a loving, caring and nurturing person. She was mother to her own children and also many other children, their home was always open to all.

Helen was a hard working, mother and grandmother with a big heart. She enjoyed making quilts and worked with the quilting group at the St. Marys Catholic Church and the New Virginia Methodist Church group. She always had a large garden and was a member of the New Virginia Garden Club. Helen was a 48 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star in New Virginia. She served as Worthy Matron and Representative Matron as well as many other stations. She was a member of the Past matrons. Helen attended the New Virginia United Methodist Church. She and Kenny were baptized in their home by Pastor Jim Patrick in 1995.

Those relatives who preceded Helen in death were parents, Paul and Gladys Deer, husband, Kenneth Ballard, son, Joe Ballard, son-in-law, Doug Wickett, grandson, Shawn Ballard, sisters, Mildred, Agnus, and Anna, brothers, Norbert, George, Marvin, and Verner.

Helen leaves to cherish memory; son, Kenneth (Linda) Ballard, Jr. of Savannah, MO, son, David (Linda) Ballard of New Virginia, IA, daughter, Cheryl (Jerry) Boles of New Virginia, IA, daughter, Charlotte Wickett of New Virginia, IA, son, Steve (Patty) Dolan of New Virginia, IA, daughter, Norma (Eugene) Cosner of Saint Charles, IA, 21 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren with one on the way, sister, Grace Reed of Van Meter, IA, as well as other relatives and many friends.

The family and funeral home asks that anyone in attendance at the visitation or funeral service please follow social distancing guidelines. The use of face coverings at either event are REQUIRED.
