Phyllis Marie Brichacek

Phyllis Marie (Vanous) Brichacek, 89, of Truro, Iowa died September 30, 2020 in Winterset, Iowa. Phyllis was born to the late Louis and Mollie (Styskal) Vanous on August 12, 1931 in David City,Nebraska. Phyllis graduated from David City High School in 1950. She married Donald E. Brichacek in 1954 and had 3 wonderful children.

Phyllis was a homemaker and enjoyed everything family. She also enjoyed being the Religious Education Coordinator for the parish, as well as being a substitute Chaplin at various hospitals. Phyllis loved to learn and loved taking classes at Creighton University and University of Iowa to further her religious education. She received a certificate from Creighton University.

Phyllis loved games, it was normal to see her sitting on her favorite chair playing on the gameboy or at her computer playing Mahjong. For her 80th birthday, in honor of her love of games, her family gave her a Wii, where her competitive spirit was fierce. Phyllis also enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels and any wildlife that would come by and she enjoyed tending to her many plants and lovely flowers.

Phyllis was preceded in death by a grandson, Jason Brichacek; brothers, John, Louis, and Elmer and a sister Lucille.

Phyllis is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Don Brichacek of Truro, IA; sons Mark of North Liberty, IA and Mike (Teresa) of Pleasant Hill, MO; and a daughter Janelle (Dan) Adams of Waukee, IA. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren; Carrie (Lance) Haynes of Rolla, MO, Ben Brichacek of Grandview, MO., and Molly Adams of Waukee, Iowa; and 2 great grandsons, Hunter Brichacek and Patrick Haynes.

Phyllis always said, "It's never goodbye, it's just so long."
