Carl "Chuck" Alexander Benedict

Carl “Chuck” Alexander Benedict, 80 of Redfield passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2020 surrounded by his family at his home in Redfield. Memorial service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, September 15th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home & Crematory – Stuart Chapel. The family kindly asks that facemasks be worn and social distancing be practiced. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Chuck Benedict Memorial Fund and cards may be sent in care of Johnson Family Funeral Home, PO Box 246, Stuart, IA 50250.

Chuck as he was better known to his family and friends was born on April 30, 1940 to Alexander Newton and Mary Hannah (Wright) Benedict in Iowa City. He was the youngest of nine children. Chuck grew up in Lorimor and attended Lorimor High School graduating with the class of 1958. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served honorably until his discharge in 1960. While enlisted he served on the USS Hancock near San Francisco. Following his discharge, he returned to Iowa and attended Southwestern Community College in Creston studying Structural Drafting.

On November 12, 1961 he married the love of his life Rose Marie Faux in Winterset. The couple was blessed with three boys: Chuck, Monte and Terry. The family lived in Winterset, Janesville, Wisconsin, Manley, Nebraska, and Patterson before lastly settling in Redfield in 1970. Chuck worked a variety of jobs but most of his working career was spent in the plumbing business.

Chuck was a longtime member of the Redfield American Legion where he enjoyed harassing the guys and playing cribbage. He also spent many hours at the “garage meetings” with friends. He enjoyed trap shooting and camping and loved antique cars especially his 1955 Chevy Bel Air and 1956 Ford Customline. Most of all he treasured time he was able to spend with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Monte Benedict; siblings: Ona Benedict, Nina (Harold) Craig, Elizabeth (Harold) Blunt, Delbert (Pat) Benedict, Evert (Silvia) Benedict, Ralph (Amy) Benedict, Henry (Rita) Benedict, and Mary Harrison; his beloved puppy, Susie; and several other family and friends.

Chucks leaves behind his loving wife, Rose of Redfield; sons, Carl “Chuck” (Jacki) Benedict Jr. and Terry (Shelle) Benedict both of Redfield; grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Jason Boska of South Dakota and his daughter, Phoenix; Chelsey (David) Wilson of De Soto and their daughter, Mia; Chad (Emily) Benedict of Newton and their daughter, Harper; , Zoey, Haven and Nixon; Justin Pansegrau (Kaelyn Vanous) of Cedar Rapids and their sons, Kaileb and Kyler; Courtney (Blake) Ryner of Waukee and their children, Becket and Ellie; Cassidy Benedict (Mikel Feick) of Redfield and a baby on the way; and Grayson Benedict of Redfield; many of Rose’s extended family members including her brothers and sister, nieces and nephews and cousins; and all his special classmates and friends from the Lorimor School all of whom will miss him dearly.
