Levi Slinker

Levi Slinker was born October 21, 1842 in Mason county, Illinois, and resided there until the age of fourteen when he came with his parents to Warren county, Iowa, and later returned to Illinois.

He enlisted on the 11th day of July 1862, and was mustered into the U. S. service at Camp Douglas, Chicago, Illinois as a private of Capt. Wm H. Weaver, Co. G, 71st Regiment, Illinois Infantry. He was honorably discharged from Chicago on the 29th day of October 1862.

He was United in marriage to Anna M. Heoulette on the 18th day of March, 1863 from which union were born six children, all of whom are living. In the spring of 1907 he and his wife moved to Payette, Idaho where he resided until his death which occurred on December 12, 1919 at the Holy Rosary Hospital, Oregon, following an operation.

His wife, Anna M. Slinker, died October 13, 1912, and on January 2nd, 1914, he was married to Susan E. Schmuch of Des Moines, Iowa who with his children, namely, Mrs. P. A. Creger, Mrs. H. B. Strawn, and E. L. Slinker, of Payette; Mrs. W. S. King of Fillmore, California, and A. V. Slinker of Peru, Iowa, and twenty-seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and four sisters and four brothers are left to mourn his death.
