Chad M. Wiedman

Chad Wiedman, son of Glen and Shirley (Hermon) Wiedman, was born Sept. 2, 1970, in Winterset, Iowa. Chad graduated from Winterset Community High School in 1989. In school he played baseball, football, ran track/cross country, and wrestled.

Chad joined the Air Force as a crew chief (helicopter mechanic). He retired after 20 years of honorable service. Chad tried a couple of other jobs after retirement to settle with going back with M1 to work on his beloved helicopters. Hueys and 53s were his favorite helicopters. He enjoyed taking pictures of helicopters in the sunset. He was able to travel to many foreign counties with the Air Force before settling down to make his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

When Chad was younger he enjoyed hunting and fishing so much so that he would skip school. His current hobby was road tripping in his Corvette with his friends. He enjoyed restoring cars that he could get his hands on. He was a member of a car club. His greatest friend that never left his side was his dog Bo. He was also a great host, as he would take in other military members as they transferred between bases or worked through difficult times.

Chad passed away Feb. 3, 2020, in Albuquerque, NM.

Chad is survived by his mother, Shirley Wiedman of Winterset; his daughters, Autumn Bowling and Breana Bowling of Virginia; his sisters, Glenda (Dan Poll) Smith of Augusta, Mich., and Susan (Charlie) Dooley of Winterset; and a multitude of friends.

Chad was preceded in death by his father, Glen Wiedman; and grandparents.

A military service in Chad’s honor is scheduled for July 24, 2020, at 2 p.m. at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel (Van Meter exit 113 off of I-80). There will be an escort service provided by the Patriot Riders. Anyone wishing to participate may meet at the parking lot at Bomgaars in Winterset at 1:00 July 24. There is also a celebration of life following the military service at the American Legion Post 403 (910 Main St., Van Meter IA 50261).

Luncheon will begin following celebration of life.
