Bruce Gregory Austin, at the age of 71, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 4, 2020, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines, IA.
He was born on January 8, 1949, in Saint Charles, IA, to Jerry and Carolyn (Rockey) Austin who preceded him in death in 2008.
He graduated from Interstate 35 High School in 1967 and from Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) in 1969 with an electronics degree. For the majority of his life, he lived in Saint Charles, IA, until moving to Prole, IA, in 2008.
As a driven and successful entrepreneur, Bruce started his first company, Applied Electronics Corporation (AEC), in Saint Charles, IA, in 1982. Under his leadership, his company, providing automation products and services, would do business worldwide. And, when he was home, he spent his time with family and friends, and supported the local community. For many summers, he would attend family reunions with his children in tow and later host family reunions at his home. Along with his parents, he had an interest in genealogy and would gather and document the Austin family history.
Bruce was an active supporter of his community from volunteering for the Saint Charles Fire & Rescue to supporting the annual town celebration, Saint Charles Old Settlers. He was a long-time garden tractor puller and, later in life, purchased his favorite car, 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger, to take to local car shows. As his grandfather had been before him, Bruce was a Freemason who earned his Third Degree, or Master Mason Degree, from the Saint Charles Masonic Lodge #315 AF & AM.
Bruce is loved and his quick wit and humor are missed by his two children, Tana Krumm of Johnston, IA, and Jared (Melinda) Austin of Windsor Heights, IA; four grandchildren, sister Sandra (Dean) Lundberg of Iowa City, IA, brother Billy (Robyn) Austin of Saint Charles, IA, sister Debbie (Marty) Richards of Austin, Minnesota, brother Dana (Melinda) Austin of New Virginia, IA, sister Jeanne (Wayne) Brown, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Carolyn.
His services are pending at this time.
