William (Bill) Jurgensen

William (Bill) Jurgensen, 86, of New Virginia (formerly of Winterset) passed away at home on May 15, 2020.

Bill was born on December 4, 1933 and attended De Soto Schools. On November 19, 1954, Bill married the first love of his life, Margaret Allsup Jurgensen. They spent 52 wonderful years together prior to her passing in 2007. Bill was fortunate enough to find love a second time and married Katharine Goering Jurgensen on August 14, 2010.

Bill was a stranger to none. He was known around town as “Wild Bill” for his full throttle attitude he carried with him. No matter the job or task, he did it full speed ahead. He was a hard working farmer who loved what he did. In 2016, he was recognized by the Madison County Pork Producers and given an award for his dedication to agriculture. In the spring time, he loved getting out to go mushroom hunting and knew exactly where to find them.

Bill is survived by his wife of ten years, Katharine Jurgensen of New Virginia; sons, William (Sharon) Jurgensen, Jr. of Stuart, Gail (Patty Shuster) Jurgensen of Winterset, and David (Amy) Jurgensen of Prole; daughter, Christine (Mike) Hobart of Prole; step-children, Dennis Kimzey of New Virginia, and Debbie (Ronald) Gebhardt of Van Meter; sisters, Louise Wells of Oregon, Lucy (Herman) Clark of Altoona, and Patsy (Dennis) Radtke of Wisconsin; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and many other great friends.

Bill is preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Jurgensen; brothers, Dan Jurgensen, Robert (Rib) Jurgensen, and Chuck Jurgensen; half-brother, Heinrich Peterson; sisters, JoAnn Brooker, Irene Houghtaling, and Ida Mapes; Son, Wayne Jurgensen; and grandchildren, Hailey and Jordan Jurgensen.

Due to Covid-19 and following CDC recommendations on large gatherings, there will be no open visitation and funeral service at this time. A private graveside service will be held in the Winterset Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
