Word was received here this week of the deaths of Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Clearwater recently, both former residents of this community, at Salem, Oregon.
Mr. Clearwater died at a hospital there on September 7. His wife, Mrs. Delcina Clearwater, died just ten days later, September 17, at her home in Salem. Funeral services and burial were held there.
Mr. Clearwater was a brother of Frank Clearwater of Winterset.

Page 9, Column 8WELL KNOWN SALEM STOCK BUYER PASSES
A. L. (Lon) Clearwater, well known Salem stock buyer, died early this morning at the Deaconess hospital at the age of 72 years. He owned among the first stables in Salem and was proprietor or the old Salem horse exchange.
During the World war Clearwater bought war horses for the Kansas City market and he had the reputation of having bought and sold more horses than anyone in the Willamette valley.
The deceased was born in Madison county, Iowa, August 22, 1864. He came to Salem in 1903 and had resided here at the family residence, 233 South Church street, since that time. Last Christmas Mr. and Mrs. Clearwater celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their home with all their children with them.
Survivors Include the widow, Mrs, Delcina Clearwater; three daughters, Mrs. Blanche Wilson and Mrs. Lois Purkey of Tacoma and Miss Garnett Clearwater of Salem; a son. O. R. Clearwater of Salem; four brothers, Bert of Canada, Frank of Winterset, la., Cloyd of Portland and John of Salem: three sisters. Mrs. Verna Sexton of Seaview, Wash., Mrs. Myrtle Snarr and Mrs. Mayme Moyer, both of Portland. Four grandchildren also survive. Funeral arrangements will be announced later from the Clough-Barrick chapel.

A. L. "Lon" Clearwater, well known Salem livestock buyer. died here yesterday at the age of 72 years. He was proprietor of one of the first livery stables in Salem.
Mr. Clearwater was born in Madison county. Iowa, August 22, 1864, and came to Salem in 1903. Last Christmas Mr. and Mrs. Clearwater celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Delcina Clearwater, three daughters and a son.
During the war Mr. Clearwater had the reputation of purchasing more horses for the Kansas City market than any buyer on the Pacific coast.
