Kathryn Lucille Stumpenhorst, 83, of the 4300 block of Southwest Fifth Street died of cancer Sunday at Lutheran Home in Wauwatosa, Wis. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Lincoln Heights Lutheran Church in Des Moines, of which she was a member. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Mrs. Stumpenhorst was born in Earlham and had lived in Missouri, Davenport and Alaska before moving to Des Moines in 1944. She was a homemaker, a member of her church's Ladies Aide and had been a volunteer with Children's Services Society. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and family activities.

She is survived by a son, Kenneth of Jackson, Tenn.; a daughter, Mary Gaub of Wauwatosa; a son, Stephen of Upland, Wis.; a brother, Robert Fry of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, George.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Southtown Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to her church.
