RUTH EVELYN SPENCER
Ankeny

Ruth Evelyn Spencer, 85, passed away September 9, 2011 following five years at Sunnyview Care Center in Ankeny.

Born December 26, 1926, she was the daughter of Emma and Frank Easter. She grew up on a farm near Truro, IA and graduated from Truro High School and Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines.

Ruth married Byron K. Spencer and later moved to CA. She retired from the Sweetwater High School District after 28 years as an administrative secretary. She was honored as the outstanding secretary of the year for 1982 in the Southern Region of California.

Ruth was a member of the National City United Methodist Church and later of the Chula Vista United Church of Christ where she served as President of the Women's Fellowship and sang in the choir. Ruth also served as President of the Chula Vista Women's Club and was very active in her community.

Ruth is survived by her son, Stephen C. Spencer; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Gladys Nabors of Redmond, WA and Jean Swift of Johnston, IA and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers, John and Robert Easter and sister, Alice Anderson.

At Ruth's request there will be no formal service and the family is grateful for the loving care she received from the Sunnyview Care Center staff.
