Mrs. Melvina Trindle died Tuesday evening, Dec. 21, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Porter near Newton. Mrs. Trindle went to the Porter home in October to spend the winter. Tuesday forenoon she suffered a stroke of paralysis and died that evening. The body was brought here Friday, the funeral being held at the United Brethren church at 1:30 p.m., the pastor, Rev. J. H. Hampshire, officiating. A quartet composed of Mrs. Will Overholt, Mrs. Chas. A. England, Boyd Landers and Paul Henry, with Miss Frances Overholt at the piano, furnished several musical selections. The pall bearers were Sanford Trindle, Warren B. Payton, Harry Shoultz, Guy Pitzer, Alva Driscoll and Frank Clearwater. The interment was at the Union Chapel cemetery. Among those here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Ernest C. Trindle from Punxsutawney, Pa., Mr. and Mrs. Ray Porter and Will Carpenter and son of Newton, and several relatives from Linville.
Melvina A. Wingfield was born at Marysville, Ohio, Sept. 6, 1849, and died near Newton, Iowa, Dec. 21, 1926, aged 77 years, 3 months and 15 days. When she was five years old she moved with her parents to Iowa where she has lived most of the time since.
On Nov. 10, 1873, she was married to Jacob J. Trindle. To this union were born two children, Abner C. and Ernest C. Abner died March 2, 1916. The family resided in Nebraska from 1879 to 1886 and then moved to Van Meter, Iowa, where they have lived for the last forty years.
Mrs. Trindle united with the Methodist Episcopal church in Childhood. When she moved to Van Meter she united with the United Brethren church, where she remained a faithful and consistent Christian.
She leaver her son, Ernest C., one sister, two brothers, besides many other relatives and friends who mourn her departure.
