William John Conrad Gronwold born March 22, 1890 in Germany, and passed away at his home in Van Meter, Tuesday, January 9, 1979.

Bill came to this country when he was about 10 years old, with his parents, John Gronwold and Catherine Buck Gronwold, sisters and brothers. They settled in Adair County, Iowa, where he married A. Cornelia Huff on August 1, 1929.

Together they worked as a farm hand in Madison and Adair counties. In 1945 the family moved to the Van Meter community and worked for Alfred Koch as a farm hand for fourteen years, then retiring to their present home in Van Meter, Iowa.

To this marriage five children were born, Katherine Rosa Collins, of Newton; Anna Belle Sheets, Des Moines; Hanna Marie Coney, Ames; John Conrad Gronwold, Van Meter and Rosalie Murphy, Altoona.

Other family members include 20 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; a sister, Emma Klinner, Towner, N. Dakota; Elise Liebelt, Grand Forks, N. Dakota.

Bill was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Greenfield, Iowa and St. Paul Lutheran Church in Winterset before becoming a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Van Meter, Iowa.

Funeral service was held at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Van Meter, on Friday, January 12 at 2 p.m. with Rev. D. H. Knuteson officiating. Pallbearers were Harlan Dippold, Dwayne Koch, Jim Koch, Fred Martens, Von Palmer and Carl Radke. Burial was at the Lutheran Cemetery.
