Darrell Wain Smith 47, of Winterset, Iowa died Thursday, February 20, 2020 from injuries sustained in a vehicle accident. A Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 5, 2019, at Powers Funeral Home 601 New York Avenue in Creston. Pastor Dwayne Henrichs will officiate. Burial will be at the Lorimor Cemetery near Lorimor. Open visitation will be 2-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, with family receiving friends from 5-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Darrell Wain Smith 47, of Winterset, Iowa died Thursday, February 20, 2020 from injuries sustained in a vehicle accident.

Darrell was born in Creston, Iowa on May 20, 1972 to Ken & Donna (Pitkin) Smith of Creston. Darrell attended Creston Community Schools where he graduated in 1991. During Darrell’s school career he participated in little league baseball, football, 4-H, Cross Country, and Track, where he went to state 2 years for his athletic achievements. In 1992, Darrell attended Southwestern Community College in Creston for auto body.

Darrell started his truck driving career driving a feed truck for the Earlham Co-op. He then changed to driving dump trucks for Kelly Cortum Inc. of Norwalk and lastly JV Trucking of Indianola. Darrell was currently employed at Cardinal Glass in Greenfield.

In 1998, Darrell met his wife & life partner Becci Berry, to which they had a daughter, Ashton Marie Smith and son, Logan Lane Smith.

Darrell enjoyed spending time with his family & his friends, listening to his music in the garage, taking long drives (gravel jamming is what he called it), sitting at bonfires, camping, fishing, playing catch with the kids, cutting wood, mowing, washing his vehicle and anyone else’s when they would stop by, and watching reruns of “Two & a Half Men” & “Diners, Drive Inns, & Dives” sitting in the recliner covered with a blanket with a dog or cat on his lap.

Darrell is survived by his wife Becci Berry, daughter Ashton Smith (Zach Scadden), son Lane Smith all of Winterset. Parents Ken & Donna Smith of Creston, brother Randy Smith (Alissa Schmitz) of Greenfield, nieces Carla Smith (Kara Beaver) of Knoxville, Raegan Smith (Pat Kilmer) of Des Moines.

Darrell is proceeded in death by his Grandparents, Wayne & Marie Pitkin, Uncle Dennis Pitkin, Aunt Dianna Meinke, Uncle Bob Smith, and Sister-in-law Brenda Smith and his Cousin Ryan Meinke.
