Martha Lorraine was born April 12, 1919 in Earlham, Iowa to Ernest and Sarah (Frye) Slavens. She passed away on June 20, 1988 at her home in Diamond City, Arkansas.
Martha attended schools in Earlham, Menlo and graduated from Stuart High School in 1937.
On January 29, 1944 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa, she married Max Barr and they had one son, Gary.
Besides her membership in the First Congregational Church, she also was a member of the MonArk Club, AARP, Past President of Douglas MacArthur #340 American Legion Auxiliary Post of Diamond City, Arkansas and Vice President of District II American Legion Auxiliary of Arkansas.
Since their retirement she kept busy traveling and with community service. Martha also liked to work with crafts.
Preceding her in death were her parents and one sister.
Surviving are her husband Max, her son Gary Gene of Mesa, Arizona; two grandsons, Douglas Gene and Steven Kent of Golden, Colorado, other relatives and many friends.
Rev. George Thurman officiated at the funeral service on June 24, 1988 at the First Congregational Church of Stuart, Iowa. Vocal music was provided by Mrs. Kathy Moon, accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Wayne Miller. Assisting with the floral tributes was Mrs. Kenneth Gebbie, Casket bearer were Pat Marnin, Kenneth Gebbie, Gerald Christensen, Don Christensen, Tom Doud and David Doud. Interment was in South Oak Grove Cemetery, Stuart, Iowa.
