Chariton, IowaJoseph Dale Carney Jr., 49, passed away at Iowa Methodist Medical Center on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020, surrounded by friends and family.
Joe Jr., was born May 21, 1970 in Des Moines, Iowa, to Judy Kay and Joseph Dale Carney Sr. The family moved to rural Winterset in 1973. He graduated from Winterset Senior High School in 1989 and participated in sports, such as wrestling, football and boxing. Competing in Golden Gloves and modeling for Younkers were his touted accomplishments. He went on to college at Ellsworth in Iowa Falls where he kicked off his career in auto sales. This eventually led to having a transmission and auto sales business in Iowa City with his ex-wife, Amanda Schumacher. Together they had children; Chloe Kae, Connor Joseph, Cole Douglas and Carlee Jean. The family home was in Solon, Iowa until Joe Jr. moved back to Winterset in 2015 for assistance with his health.
Joe Jr. is survived by his parents, Judy and Joseph; children Dylan Cox, Chloe, Connor, Cole and Carlee; siblings: Jamie (Jennifer) Carney, Laresa Carney, Joshua Carney, Jacob Carney, Kayla Carney; foster brothers, Rob Benson and Andrew Fath; and many nieces and nephews.
Joe Jr. was preceded in death by his sister, Darcy O’Brien (Carney); paternal grandparents, Katie and Walter Carney; and maternal grandparents, Waunita and Rodney Maxson.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, Feb. 2, 2020 at noon at the Winterset Seventh-Day Adventist Church located at 903 W. Summit Street. A light luncheon will follow.
Remembrances may be made in the form desired by friends and family.
