Maris Daleth Thompson Snyder, daughter of Clarence V. and Harriet M. (Jones) Thompson, was born February 28, 1937 in Jefferson Township, Madison County, Iowa. They lived several places in Madison County and Clarence worked several places throughout the years, retiring from the County where he ran a maintainer blading roads. Harriet was a housewife taking care of their four children.

Maris was united in marriage to Duane Snyder on April 10, 1953 at the Booneville United Methodist Church in Boonville, Iowa. Maris and Duane had three children. They were married 66 years before Duane passed away on February 9, 2019. She worked outside the home over the years of marriage starting out at the Dallas County Courthouse, then worked at the Madison County Hospital, CIGNA, and retired from EMC Insurance.

Maris and Duane enjoyed camping and took many family trips out West where some of Duane’s relatives lived. She also enjoyed country and bluegrass music, bird watching, and genealogy. They lived several places early in their marriage and continued raising their children on the family farm. They moved to Winterset after selling the farm and finally settled after retirement in Patterson, Iowa. Maris served as Mayor of Patterson for three years and was a member of the Patterson Methodist Church.

Those left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Kathy (Denny) Binns and Christy Rinard, both of Winterset; a son, Doug (Dawn) Snyder of Burlington; two sisters, Cheryl (Roy) Wedemeyer and Doris Shambaugh of Carlisle; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Duane; her parents, Clarence and Harriet Thompson; and her brother, Nick Thompson.
