Osceola, IowaLouise Nelson, daughter of Alva Oliver Thomas and Grace Elizabeth Hopkins was born January 23, 1927 near Grand River, Iowa and passed from this life Monday, December 30, 2019 at Clarke County Hospital at 92 years of age.
Louise received her education in rural schools in Decatur County and graduated from Grand River High School in 1945. She attended summer school at Simpson College in Indianola to attain her teaching certificate and began her teaching career in country school later that same year. Her career spanned over thirteen years first in the country schools of Decatur and Clarke Counties until they closed. She then began teaching in Truro and remained there for another three years when she met her future husband, Raymond.
Louise was united in marriage to Raymond Keith Nelson on April 19, 1957 at the United Methodist Church in Grand River and two children, Keith and Brian blessed this union.
She was a member of Jolly Fu Club in Truro and enjoyed cooking, baking and gardening with Raymond. She also enjoyed traveling and even took a ladies vacation across country with Francis Carson during the early years of her teaching career. Her family was very important to her and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren held a special place in her heart.
Those relatives who preceded Louise in death were her parents; father-in-law, Bert William Nelson, mother-in-law, Mabel Ann Nelson, husband, Raymond Keith Nelson, brother, Donald "Dean" Thomas and sister-in-law, Virginia Thomas, brother, Maurice Thomas and sister-in-law, Beulah Thomas, sister-in-law, Isabel Nelson, brother-in-law, Wayne Nelson, infant nephew, Rodney Lee Green, niece, Patricia Davidson, nephew, Mark Green and brother-in-law, Don Green.
Louise leaves to cherish her memory; son, Keith Nelson of Truro, Iowa and Brian (Shelley) Nelson of New Virginia, Iowa; grandchildren, Abbie (Greg) Saxton of Truro, IA, Alexis (Matt) Owens of Red Oak, IA, Sierra Nelson of New Virginia, IA, Jessica Nelson of Urbandale, IA and Chad Nelson of Truro, IA; great-grandchildren, Allie Owens, Dallas Owens and Jameson Saxton; brother, Jim (Marge) Thomas of Osceola, IA; sister-in-law, Betty Ann Green of Osceola, IA; daughter in law, Becky Nelson of Urbandale, IA as well as nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends.
Memorials may be directed to the Truro Congregational United Church of Christ
Burial will be in the Ebenezer Cemetery, rural Madison County, Iowa.
