Donald W. Palmer

Donald “Don” Wayne Palmer, age 82 of Winterset, passed away Saturday, November 23, 2019 at Azria Health Winterset.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at Caldwell Parrish Winterset Chapel, with family receiving friends one hour prior, from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial with military honors will be in the Winterset Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to EveryStep Hospice.

Don was born in 1937 to his parents, Dana and Olive Oneal Palmer. He had one older sister, Dorothy Mae. He grew up in Des Moines, Iowa and joined the Army immediately upon leaving North High School in 1954. He was stationed in Seoul during the Korean conflict. Don worked for Hy-Line International, Lennox Industries, Master Mix Feed and Herman M. Brown Company during his career.

In 1959, he married Illia Mae Nase of Emmetsburg, Iowa. They had no children but enjoyed spending time with their niece, Vicki and nephew, Randy Crawford.

Don counted his family and friends as one of life’s greatest treasures. The love of his life, Illia Mae preceded him in death on June 19, 2008. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Dana and Olive Oneal Palmer; brother-in-law and sister, Charlie and Dorothy Crawford.

Survivors include distant relatives; nephew, Randy (Jan) Crawford and their families; cousin, Judy (Jim) VerHoef and their families, and Vicki (Les) Beer and their families.
