Miss Katie McCarty, 94 years old and a member of one of Lee township’s old families, died at her home on the county line Sunday afternoon, August 17. Funeral services were held on Tuesday morning at 9 o’clock at S. Patrick’s church with burial in the cemetery near the church.
Miss McCarty is survived by one sister, Anna, 96 years of age and one brother, Ted, 92 years of age and two nephews of Des Moines. All three have resided in the home North of the church for a number of years. Since the funeral, the sister and brother have gone to a nursing home in Des Moines.

Through 9 consecutive censuses, the deceased's year of birth was never earlier than 1864 which would put her age at death at 88 years. The year 1864 came from the 1870 census and, from an analysis of all family member ages in that census, 1864 for Katie's birth year is likely correct.
