Richard (Dick) Leroy Barker of Winterset, Iowa passed away on October 4, 2019 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital.

Family will receive friends on Monday, October 7th, from 5 -7 pm at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home Winterset Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Tuesday, October 8th, at 10:30 am. Burial will follow at the Winterset Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to his family for a future designation.

Dick was born on April 25, 1941 in Ames, IA to Raymond and Faye Barker. He served in the Army Reserves for six years and spent most of his career working as a custodian for Des Moines Schools. He married Margaret (King) Barker in 1968 and together raised 5 children and had 10 grandchildren. Dick and Margaret were married until Margret’s death in 1997. Dick later married Joann (Haines) Barker in 2003.

Dick enjoyed movies, gardening, camping, fishing and tinkering with cars. He was a kind and gentle soul whose love for dessert was only exceeded by his love for his family and friends.

Dick is survived by his children, Daniel (Linda) Barker of Winterset, IA, Julie (Jay) Carlson of Urbandale, IA, James (Kristine) Barker of Omaha, NE, Richard (Michelle) Barker of Clive, IA and Joseph (Claire) Barker of Overland Park, KS; grandchildren, Maci Barker, Paige and Erika Carlson, Grace, Grant and Gabrielle Barker, Quinn Barker, Jack, Victor and Daniel Barker; step-son, Jimmie (Harmony) Haines, step- grandchildren Justin Porter, Mariah Clark, Keeyon Van Weelden, and Cyana Van Weelden. Dick is also survived by his brother, Ronald Barker.

Dick was proceeded in death by his parents, wife Margaret, wife Joann and two infant brothers.
