Danny (Dan) K. Fenimore

Danny (Dan) K. Fenimore was born on May 22, 1945 to Roger and Artis (Cline) Fenimore in Madison County, Iowa. He passed away on July 3, 2019.

He spent his first few years on a farm in Madison County, then moved with his family to a farm north of Mitchellville. From an early age his interests were varied: flying, birds, fishing, hunting, photography, and all things related to the natural world. He was very involved in scouting and became an Eagle Scout.

Graduating from Bondurant-Farrar High School as a State Wrestling Champ, he attended Central College in Pella where he majored in psychology. After college, he joined the Peace Corps, travelling to Ethiopia. He then enlisted in the UNITED STATES NAVY because he knew they were the best pilots. After receiving his wings, he flew A-4 Skyhawks over Texas, Florida and was eventually assigned to Puerto Rico.

After an honorable discharge, Dan worked in a variety of fields, the majority of which being child and family counseling. But he saved his best job for last as a “Prairie Technician” where he documented roadside and remnant prairies in central Iowa, methodically driving down each road in 20 counties.

Dan is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Laurie (George) Fenimore; his children Tyler (Gemma) Fenimore (Arizona), Kelly Hastings (Indiana), Scott Fenimore (Alabama); grandsons Nicholas and Henry, granddaughters Madison and Stella and a great grandson; a brother Chris Fenimore and a loving sister Carol Mathis. He is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, sister Karen (Gary) Davis and brother David Fenimore.

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Dan’s care team, Dr. Stanton Danielson, his staff, and all the nurses and staff at Iowa Lutheran ICU.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am Thursday, July 11, 2019, followed by a Celebration of Life at the Mitchellville Community Center, 114 2nd Street, Mitchellville, Iowa. A luncheon will follow.

Inurnment will be held privately at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Jasper County Conservation Board, Hope For Wildlife, or any conservation group of your choice.
