Donald L. Forsman, 82 of Adel, passed away at Spurgeon Manor on May 4, 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 from 2:00-7:00 PM at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home - McCalley Chapel in Adel. Family will be present and greeting friends from 4:00-7:00 PM. A prayer service will begin at 7:00 PM. A funeral service will take place at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at Adel United Methodist Church. A burial will take place following the funeral service at Oakdale Cemetery in Adel.

Donald was born November 24, 1936 to Don and Melba (Kilcher) Forsman in Sumner, IA. Don was baptized at the Peace Church of Fredericksburg. At the young age of three Don began his entertaining career as a tap dancer, from there music blossomed throughout all of Don’s life. After Don attended Iowa State University, he transferred to Drake University where he received his bachelor’s degree in music education. Don married Judy Whitnable on May 31, 1959 and they were blessed with two children, a son, Scott and daughter, Joni. Don and Judy made their first home in Earlham where he taught music. As Don’s career continued, they moved to Adel in 1968 where he and Judy have resided since. Don later joined Principal Financial Group where he was a marketing consultant, retiring in 2000.

As a loyal member of the United Methodist Church in Adel, Don served many years as the choir director and taught several Sunday school classes. Don continued to share his talents and love of music by singing at weddings, funerals, with the church choir, community plays and most recently the local choir group “Gotta-Zing”.

Don is survived by his wife of 59 years, Judy; son, Scott (Hollie) Forsman of Ellsworth, WI; daughter, Joni (Kenny) Williams of Nevada, IA; 6 grandchildren, Daniel, Ryan and Michelle Forsman, and Mitchell, Joel and Meredith Williams; 3 great-grandchildren, Owen, Ellie and Rory Forsman; and numerous extended family members.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother.
