Donald James Overton, son of Thomas Overton and Alice (McDonald) Overton was born October 10, 1933 in Scranton, Iowa and passed from this life Sunday, April 7, 2019 at Banner Del E Webb Medical Center in Sun City West, Arizona at 85 years of age.

Don served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955. He was united in marriage to Luann Marie Bedford August 4, 1973 in Des Moines, Iowa. They have farmed together near St. Charles for over 45 years and wintered in Arizona after retirement.

Don was a member of the St. Charles Lions Club for over 50 years, including serving a term as President from 1972-1973. He was Lion of the Year in 1979-1980. He was a member of the St. Marys American Legion, Don and Luann were members of the St. Charles Development Corporation, he was a member of the St. Charles Parish, he participated in the WHO Great Iowa Tractor Ride since it started in 1996. Don was a farmer, trucker and owner of Overton Feed & Equipment from 1973-1993 and owner of many other local businesses. He enjoyed restoring Allis Chalmers tractors, fishing, wintering in Arizona and his greatest joy was his family.

Those relatives who preceded Don in death were his mother and step-father, Alice and Vern Anderson, father, Thomas Overton, son Mike Overton, sisters, Mary Lou and Margaret, and brother, Bob; step-siblings, Darlene and Doris.

Don leaves to cherish his memory; wife of 45 years, Luann Overton of Saint Charles, IA, son, Bill (Debbie) Overton of Osceola, IA, son, Wayne (Angie) Bedford of Grand Rapids, MI and Fort Mills, SC, son, Curt (Kelly) Bedford of San Antonio, TX, son, Ron Bedford of Sun City West, AZ; step-siblings, Beverly, Janet, and Richard; grandchildren, Casey (Josh) Spoelstra of Murray, IA, Denver Overton of Osceola, IA, Sydney (Pete) Cabrera, of San Antonio, TX, Hannah Bedford, of Austin, TX, Alyssa Bedford, of West Des Moines, IA, Nick Bedford, of Grimes, IA, Abby Bedford, of Fort Mills, SC., and great granddaughter, Penelope Bedford-Cabrera of San Antonio, TX, as well as other relatives and many friends.

Burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery.
