Alden Bennett, 74, of 7301 Fleur Drive died of cancer Monday at home. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Southtown Funeral Home, and burial of the cremains will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. Bennett was born in Macksburg and moved to Des Moines in 1968 from Winterset. He retired as a truck driver for Ruan Transport and was a Coast Guard veteran of World War II and a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.

Surviving are his wife, Madeline; two stepsons, Butch Porter and Martin Porter, a stepdaughter, Ginger Wollard, and two daughters, Barbara Bennett-Gustafson and Cathy Bennett, all of Des Moines; three sisters, Edna Creswell of Dexter and June Weaver and Edith Huffman, both of Creston; and seven grandchildren.
