Michael Cain, 73, of Peru, died Sunday, February 10, 2019 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 16, at the Foursquare Gospel Church in Winterset with a memorial service to immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. A burial at a later date will be held in the Peru Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation and online condolences can be left at Ochiltree. Com.

Michael Roy Cain, son of Roy and Elaine (Kusel) Cain, was born March 19, 1945 in Des Moines, Iowa. He served in the United States Navy from 1963 to 1967 and was united in marriage with Shaun Keiran on August 23, 1969 in Des Moines.

Michael worked for Armstrong Tire Company for 25 years before retiring. In his retirement, he enjoyed mowing for the Madison County Memorial Hospital. He loved being outdoors especially when he was camping and fishing. Michael cherished his grandchildren and great grandchildren and took them everywhere with him, especially if he was going fishing. He had an appreciation for old trains and enjoyed traveling to see them. He enjoyed history and watching westerns. Michael liked having coffee with the guys from the maintenance department at the hospital. He was a caring person who was known for taking care of everyone, most often if they had car troubles. Above all else, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend who will be greatly missed.

Michael is survived by his wife of 49 years, Shawn Cain of Peru; two children, Michael Patrick Cain of Des Moines; Janel (Tim) Karas of Martensdale; five grandchildren, Aidan Cain; Conner Cain; Courtney Vandeboe; Olivia Behlers and Abigail Ashby; four great grandchildren; siblings, John (Wanda) Cain of Washington; Diane (Steve) Bosch of Colorado and Danne Cain of Stuart; nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Elaine Cain.
