He graduated from Earlham High School in 1973. Nick went on to attend Iowa State graduating in 1977. It was at Iowa State that he met his wife, Doreen Davey. He also served on the Farmers Cooperative (FC) (now known as Landus Cooperative) board for 12 years. He was an avid toy tractor and train collector.
