R. Scott Dickinson, 66, of Des Moines, passed away Monday, January 21, 2019 at Mercy Hospice of Johnston.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, January 25, 2019, at the Westover Funeral Home with a gathering following at the West Des Moines Elks Lodge. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Westover Funeral Home with burial to follow at the Winterset Cemetery.

Scott was born November 2, 1952 in Bath, ME, son of Russell B. and Mary I. (Davis) Dickinson. He received his education at Hoover High School where he was a three sport athlete. He continued his education at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, IA where in his senior year was Captain of the football team and was President of Beta Omicron (Owls).

Scott owned and operated Scott’s N Soda Tavern in Des Moines for many years and for the past 15 years was employed as a Product Support Specialist for ADP. Scott had a passion for golf, music and the Iowa Hawks. He enjoyed being with his many friends. Scott had a great sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh.

Scott is survived by a son Rusty, his mother Mary Dickinson, a sister Paula Thornton, two brothers, Steven and Grant, Rusty’s mother Shelley Dickinson, and significant other Ginny Smith who cared for him in his final months.

He was preceded in death by his father Russ and daughter Kayleigh Mae.

Memorials may be directed to the family for the future purchase of a memorial tree on Scott’s favorite golf course.
