August 30, 1925 - December 12, 2018

Irvin “I.D.” Froit, 93, of Shannon City, died Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at the Afton Care Center.

Celebration of Life funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday December 17, 2018 at the Powers Funeral Home in Afton. Pastor Dwayne Henrichs will officiate.

Burial will be at Beulah cemetery north of Thayer with full military honors will be provided by the Theodore J. Martins Post #1797.

Open visitation with Family receiving friends will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. service time on Monday, December 17, 2018 at the Powers Funeral Home in Afton.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be given to the family of Irvin “I.D.” Froit, to be determined at a later date.

Irvin Duane “I.D.” Froit was born August 30, 1925, in Murray, Ia. to Lucille Roxie (Pickel) and Harry Edward Froit. I.D. was educated in Murray Country Schools. He worked at the rock quarry for a short time. In January of 1944, I.D. joined the United States Navy and did active service for two years in Hawaii. Following his honorable discharge in May of 1946, I.D. settled in Afton and began working for the railroad in a variety of positions.

I. D. was united in marriage to Luetta M. Jennings, to this union they were blessed with four children. They settled in Afton. They later divorced. Later I.D. was untied in marriage to Louise Bata, to this union they were blessed with a son. They settled in Creston. They were later divorced.

On September 28, 1976 I.D. was united in marriage to Wanda Mae Johnson in Winterset, Ia. They settled in Creston and in 1977 they moved to Shannon City. I.D. retired from the railroad on August 30, 1987 after 43 years of service.

I.D. is survived by four children, Linda (husband Harvey, Sr.) Van Heeswyk of Afton, Debora Hudson of Des Moines, Edward Froit of Creston and Montelle Froit of Afton; two step-children Richard Daub of Denver Colo. and Windy (husband Dale) Thornton of Shannon City; 5 grandchildren, Rob (wife Robin) VanHeeswyk of Pleasant Hill, Ia., Regina (husband Brent) Lumpkin of Strafford, Mo., Michael (wife Karie) Hudson of Afton, Danny Froit of Afton and Ivan Froit of Flippin, Ark.; 17 great-grandchildren, Wesley, Brandon, Bradley, Cory, Cody, Natasha (husband Mark), Jacob, Wyatt, Jessica, Cody, Ashley, Katelyn, Rachel, Lauren, Christopher, Jaden and Alex and one great-great-granddaughter, Rebecca.

I.D. was preceded in death by his parents, brother Chester Froit, sisters Marjorie Henries and Leta Hartsook, grandson Harvey VanHeeswyk, Jr., son Douglas Froit and granddaughter Angel Daub.
