In Memoriam

Willis Patrick, son of James and Sarah Ann Patrick, was born Sept. 30, 1857, near Oxford Junction, Jones county, Iowa, one of fourteen children of whom eleven preceded him in death. When a small boy he came to the vicinity of Jefferson, Iowa, where he grew to manhood.

In 1876 he was married to Miss Sarah Frances Underwood, and moved to Calhoun county in 1884 to a farm west of Jolley, where they shared the hardships of pioneer days. To this union were born six children: Minnie and Bessie preceded them in death in early childhood, and the wife Sarah Frances, passed away March 11, 1887, leaving Elsie, Arden, Zelmar and Azel as mere babies.

In the fall of 1889 he was married to Hulda Jeannette McGuire of Sac City. To this union three children were born, Ellsworth, Louis and Mable.

The family moved to Terrill in 1914. In 1921 they moved to Peru, Iowa, where Hulda Jeannette passed away Nov. 17, 1921. Coming back to Jolley to make his home in 1923, Mr. Patrick lived here until the time of his death, Dec. 21, 1940, at the Rockwell City hospital at the age of 83 years, 2 months and 21 days.
