May 1997Arnold E. Schirm was born the son of Jacob and Dora Franz Schirm in Adair, Iowa on May 1, 1913. Arnold died at the Madison County Hospital in Winterset following a short stay at the Earlham Health Care Center. Arnold was baptized on June 1, 1913 and was confirmed on March 28, 1926 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Adair.
Arnold attended and graduated from Adair Schools. Arnold graduated from the American Institute of Business in Des Moines in 1932 and went to work for Parrott Produce of Adair. Arnold entered in the U.S. Army Air Corp on December 11, 1942 as a pilot and completed his service on August 19, 1944. Arnold returned to work at the Parrott Produce, however in March of 1946, Arnold opened the Schirm Produce and Hatchery, which he owned and operated until his retirement in May of 1975.
Arnold and Beth wintered in Donna, Texas for nine years. He loved to travel, camp, and fish. He also enjoyed woodworking and oil painting. However, his true pastime love was to play cards, especially cribbage and Skip-Bo.
Arnold leaves the following family to celebrate his life: wife Beth Schirm of Stuart; daughter Betty Jean Kozyra and husband Thomas of Brighton, Michigan; son Robert Dean Schirm and wife Jane of Dexter, Iowa; step-daughter Karen J. Phillips and husband Richard of Des Moines; step-son Raymond R. Rabe and wife Sandi of Statesville, North Carolina; step-daughter-in-law Delores Labrier of Missoula, Montana; 10 grandchildren: Michelle and Patricia Kozyra, Mike, John and Lisa Phillips, Mark, Brent, Chris and Cara Rabe, and Denise Kimerly, as well as 10 step-great-grandchildren.
Arnold was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Elnora Schirm, infant daughter Jane Irene Schirm and sister Irene Wahlert, and brother Carl Schirm, and step-son Roger Rabe.
Interment in Dexter cemetery.
