Melba L. Brown

Damascus, MD - Melba L. Brown, 95, passed away on Saturday, October 27, 2018. Graveside memorial service will be held at a later date in Winterset, IA.

Melba was born on September 12, 1923 to Clair Odell and Nettie U. (Goodman) Burd of Winterset IA. She attended Winterset schools and married Clarence (Smokey) F. Brown on October 25, 1941. The couple made their home, raised their family, and ran a business together in Des Moines, IA. Melba was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. She retired after 38 years of service at Mercy Hospital. Melba was known not only for her kindness and patience, but also for her green thumb and creation of beautiful flower gardens surrounding their home.

She is survived by her sister, Carmen Galleguillos, of Ozone, AR.; son, Michael (Anna) of Clive, IA.; daughter, Patricia (Raymond) Donnelly, of Damascus, MD.; grandchildren, Shelly Cordaro, Tony Cordaro, Damea Daniels, Alison Brown, Andrew Brown, Christopher Donnelly, and Victoria Donnelly; seven great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Melba was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years; parents; step-mother, Natalie Burd; daughters, Sandra Ellis and Edith Sieck; grandson, Ronald Carrington; and great grand-daughter, Cassidy Edwards.
