John G. Edwards, 83, of Norwalk, well known older resident of Madison county died Tuesday night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Della Wilson. Funeral services will be held this afternoon, Thursday, at the Christian church in Lorimor. Burial will be in the Lorimor cemetery. Mr. Edwards was an uncle of Mrs. J. A. Kitchell and Gaylord Edwards.

OBITUARY

John Gaylord Edwards was born at Wyanette, Illinois Dec. 24, 1854 and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Della Wilson of Norwalk, Iowa, march 9, 1937, aged 82 years, 2 months and 15 days.

He was the seventh of 13 children of Francis M. and Lucretia Gaylord Edwards. All of his brothers and sisters have preceded him in death except 1 sister, Mrs. May Herbst of Missouri Valley, Iowa. The Edwards family came to Iowa about 1870 and located on a farm near Knoxville, Iowa.

John G. Edwards was united in marriage to Miss Sarah Berry of Lorimor, Iowa Sept 6, 1881 and to this union nine children were born. Mrs. Edna Stoner, Litchfield, Minn., Lyle, of Lorimor, Delbert, Sheridon, Mrs. Della Wilson, Norwalk, Frank of Patterson, Ia., Mrs. Patience Wadell, Des Moines, Thomas of Lorimor, Edward of Indianola. Mrs. Edwards, the wife of his youth and the mother of his children died April 9, 1905 nearly 35 years ago.

These sons and daughters, except two sons, Sheridon and Delbert survive him to mourn his loss, but to cherish the memory of the best father as a blessed heritage. He is also survived by 37 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, a number of nephew and nieces and a wide circle of friends.

To know Mr. Edwards was to esteem and honor him. A faithful husband and father, an industrious, honest and upright citizen. Such a man as J. G. Holland prayed for more than half a century ago.
