Ray Ridout, 75, of Waukee, died Monday, September 24, 2018, at his winter home in Apache Junction, Arizona.

A visitation will be held from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, September 30, at Ochiltree Funeral Service where family will be present to receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 1, at the funeral home with burial to follow in the Winterset Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation.

Raymond Frederick Ridout was born February 15, 1943, in St. Charles, Iowa, the son of Wayne and Flossie (Shearer) Ridout. Ray was a 1962 graduate of Winterset High School. His marriage to Linda Cresup took place on March 3, 1962, and to this union four children were born. Ray’s second marriage was to Betty Zimmerman Hubbs and the couple were wed February 14, 1977.

During his working years, Ray worked in the grocery business. He worked with SuperValu in Winterset, A & P in Urbandale, Tate’s SuperValu in Des Moines and owned and managed the Roadside Grocery in Des Moines on Scott Street near the capital. His last employment was with Lomar Foods where he worked as a salesman calling upon grocery stores and retired in 2000.

Ray grew up on a farm and considered himself a lifelong farmer. He had an amazing green thumb and enjoyed manicuring his lawn and maintaining his flower beds and gardens. He was also an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, and going to the casino. He and Betty wintered for many years in Arizona where he made many friends. All this said, Ray loved his family and cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren and was always willing to help them any way he could.

Ray is survived by his wife Betty Ridout of Waukee; his children, Craig Ridout of Waukee, Kevin (Betty) Ridout of Cumming, Kristie (Kevin) Nielsen of Mingo, Brandon Hubbs of West Des Moines; siblings, Bill (Evelyn) Ridout of Lorimor, Karen (Tim) Jordan of Clive; sister-in-law, Kathleen Ridout of Lorimor; seven grandchildren, Nick Kirschbaum, Nathan Kirschbaum, Camille Mueller, Brandon Hubbs, Luke Hubbs, Kent Nielsen, and Alyssa Flanagan; eleven great grandchildren, Sophie DeNai, Caden Flanagan, Kyler Flanagan, Ava Kirschbaum, Payton Mueller, Dylan Nielsen, Jackston Kirschbaum, Kenley Flanagan, Chloe Kirschbaum, Nathan Hubbs, and Rosie Hubbs; nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Kenny Ridout and Ron Hubbs and brothers, Wendell Ridout and Gary Ridout.
