Andrew Porter, 79 Of Lorimor, Dies

LORIMOR—Andrew Porter, 79, died this morning at the home of his granddaughter, Mrs. Loren Rush, near Tingley. He had been in failing health most of the winter.

Mr. Porter had lived near Lorimor in Union and Madison counties for many years. He and his wife observed their golden wedding anniversary last December 16.

He is survived by his widow and six children.

Funeral services will be held at the Christian church her at 2 p.m. Monday.

Andrew Jackson Porter was born October 6, 1869, in Walnut township, near Barney in Madison county, Iowa, and departed this life February 12, 1949, near Kellerton, Iowa, where he had resided in the home of his granddaughter, Mrs. Loren Rush, since he and Mrs. Porter left Lorimor four months ago. He was 79 years, 4 months and 6 days at the time of his death.

He was untied in marriage to Henrietta Weaver Dec. 16, 1890, at Barney, Iowa. They made their home on a farm near Lorimor in Union county until 1919 when they moved to Lorimor. To this union were born six children, who with the wife are mourning the passing of a faithful husband and a kind father. The children are Alma Tratchel of Newton, Anas Henderson of Igloo, So. Dak., Nellie Welty of Afton, Lee Porter of Adel, Leona Henning of Rock Island, Ill., and Edson Porter of Colfax. All children were present with the mother at the funeral. One sister, Mrs. Cora Youree of Texas, survives, and also twenty grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

For the past two years, Mr. Porter had endured much suffering but never lost interest in the family or friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, February 14, 1949, in the Lorimor Christian church, conducted by Rev. O. E. Richardson of Murray. Music by Mrs. Roy Hammans and Jay Steele, accompanied by Mrs. Roy Grandfield. Pallbearers were Wesley Stalcup, Chas. Weber, R. J. Grandfield, Kenneth Garrett, Len Ballard and W. A. Winkler.

Burial in Lorimor cemetery, directed by the Watts Funeral Service.

ANDREW PORTER DIED SATURDAY

Andrew Porter, 79, life-long resident of this community, passed away at the home of his granddaughter, Mrs. Loren Rush, near Tingley, Iowa, on Saturday, February 12. Mr. Porter had been in failing heath for a number of years.

Mr. Porter was born October 6, 1869, in Madison county, and had spent his entire life in Madison and Union counties. He was a farmer before moving to Lorimor some thirty years ago where he resided until lately, when he and Mrs. Porter moved to the granddaughter’s home near Tingley.

Mr. Porter is survived by his wife and six children, two sons and four daughters.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, February 14 at 2:00 p. m., in the Lorimor Christian church, with the Rev. O. E. Richardson of Murray officiating. Interment was made in the Lorimor cemetery under the direction of the Watts Funeral Service of Lorimor and Murray.
