Velma M. Wilcox, Oskaloosa

Velma Wilcox, 104, of Oskaloosa, died Wednesday, September 12, 2018, at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa. She was born December 17, 1913, north of Keswick, in Keokuk County, the daughter of Wilmar and Cora Opal Brainard Snakenberg. She attended school in Keokuk County. On February 16, 1938, she was united in marriage to Harold Wilcox in Osceola, Iowa. Harold died November 13, 1982. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Woodward, Iowa and in 1956 moved to Madrid, Iowa. In 1965, the family moved to the St. Charles and Winterset areas where they lived for over thirty-one years. Velma worked until her retirement in the circulation, mail and book handling department at Wallace-Homestead Company in Des Moines. In September of 1996, she moved to Oskaloosa. She enjoyed quilting.

Her family includes her two children, Rex Wilcox of Gardner, Kansas and Charlene Siedhoff of Springdale, Arkansas; four grandchildren, Cory Wilcox, Leilani McDowell, Robert Hanson, and Erica Ramsey; eight great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Velma was preceded in death by her parents; a son in law, Steve Siedhoff; two sisters, Edith Whitworth and Mildred Lemon; and two brothers, Leo Snakenberg and Roy Snakenberg.

Graveside funeral service and burial will be held Saturday, September 15, 2018, at 2:30 p.m. in the Sixteen Cemetery near Keswick with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation with the family will be in the Bates Funeral Chapel on Saturday from 12 noon until 1:50 p.m. at which time a procession will form for those wishing to attend the graveside service. Memorials may be made to the Sixteen Cemetery Association.
