H. D. Atkinson Is Dead at 65

Herbert D. Atkinson, 65, of 1229 Geil ave., was pronounced dead Monday night on arrival at Iowa Methodist Hospital after suffering a heart attack at his home.

Born in Clarke County, Mr. Atkinson had lived in Des Moines 43 years. He had been a member of maintenance staff at Maple Grove School for the last 20 years.

Services are being arranged at the Hamilton Funeral Home.

Surviving are his widow, Marie; two daughters, Mrs. Paul Melone of Peoria, Ill., and Mrs. Robert Dutton of Red Oak; two sisters, Mrs. Emery Steele and Mrs. Marie Carson of Osceola; two brothers, Donald of Osceola and Dale of Leon, and seven grandchildren.

H. D. Atkinson Services Set

Services for Herbert D. Atkinson, 65, of 1229 Gail ave., a custodian at Maple Grove School, will be at 1:30 p. m. Friday at the Hamilton Funeral Home. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. Atkinson was pronounced dead of a heart attack Monday on arrival at Iowa Methodist Hospital.

He had lived here 43 years and had been an employee of the Des Moines school board 20 years.

Transcriber's note: Contrary to the obituary, the Madison County Birth Records show him to be born in Ohio Township, Madison County in 1894.
