Joan Lynch, 86, of Cumming, went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 10, 2018, at her home near Cumming, Iowa.

A visitation will be held from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 16, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset, with family present to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will begin that evening at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 17, at St. Patrick’s Irish Settlement Church with burial to follow in the St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the St. Patrick’s Irish Settlement Church and/or Unity Point Hospice and online condolences can be left at ochiltree.com.

Joan is survived by her husband of 67 years, John Lynch of Cumming; ten children, John (Patrick) Lynch of Signal Hill, CA; Jim (Colleen) Lynch of Prole; Dan (Sheila) Lynch of Van Meter; Mary Lynch of Cumming; Janette (Gary) Purdy of Van Meter; Pat (Laura) Lynch of Cumming; Sue (Greg) Chenoweth of Indianola; Sheila (Dave) Stivers of West Des Moines; Dave Lynch of Norwalk; Pete (Chris) Lynch of West Des Moines; 20 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and one on the way; sister, Mary (Erik) Cleveland of Aldon; nieces, nephews, extended family and a friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Violet Eagan; sister, Betty Eagland; granddaughter, Edith Ellen; and a daughter-in-law, Jennifer Lynch.

Joan Joyce Lynch, daughter of James and Violet (Hope) Eagan, was born November 25, 1931, in Crawford Township in Madison County. She attended school in the Martensdale area and graduated from Martensdale High in 1949. Joan was united in marriage with John Lynch on September 9, 1950, at the Church of Assumption in Churchville, Iowa; ten children were born to this union.

Joan was a member of St. Patrick’s Irish Settlement Church and their Altar and Rosary Society. She stayed busy on the farm raising their ten children along with a couple strays. Joan enjoyed doing puzzles and was an avid reader. She kept a journal for decades of her life on the farm. She was a talented cook and gardener. Joan loved spending time with her grandchildren and staying current with all of their lives. She talked almost daily with her lifelong friend, Wilma Dunn. She was an excellent mother and even greater grandmother who cherished the time she was able to spend with her family. Joan was a devoted wife and a faithful servant to the church.

Joan is survived by her husband of 67 years, John Lynch of Cumming; ten children, John (Patrick) Lynch of Signal Hill, CA; Jim (Colleen) Lynch of Prole; Dan (Sheila) Lynch of Van Meter; Mary Lynch of Cumming; Janette (Gary) Purdy of Van Meter; Pat (Laura) Lynch of Cumming; Sue (Greg) Chenoweth of Indianola; Sheila (Dave) Stivers of West Des Moines; Dave Lynch of Norwalk; Pete (Chris) Lynch of West Des Moines; 20 grandchildren, Wyeth, Mary Kenna, Marshall, Jason, Erin, Laura, Alesia, Ryan, Joshua, Jeremy, Brian, Daniel, Joann, David, Mindy, Eric, Carli, Ben, Emily, and Luke; 15 great grandchildren and one on the way; sister, Mary (Erik) Cleveland of Aldon; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Violet Eagan; sister, Betty Eagland; great-granddaughter, Edith Ellen; and a daughter-in-law, Jennifer Lynch.
