Edwin L. Townsend, 59, died of asphyxiation Tuesday at his home, 1245 Twelfth st. Coroner William Carpenter said his death was suicide.
The body is at Harbach’s Funeral home pending funeral arrangements.

Former Grocer Iowa Resident 60 Years.
Funeral services for Edwin L. Townsend, 64, will be at 4 p. m. Friday at Harbach’s funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale cemetery.
Mr. Townsend, who had lived in Iowa 60 years, died Tuesday after an illness of several weeks. He was in the grocery business for many years.
He is survived by his widow, a son, LeVon Townsend of Iowa City, and a daughter, Mrs. F. G. Barnes of Silver City, Ia. Two sisters, Mrs. John Callison of Macksburg, Ia., and Mrs. James Canning of Des Moines, and his stepmother, Mrs. Estella E. Townsend, also survive.
