Services Today at Beattie for R. C. (Bert) Graham

Final rites for R. C. (Bert) Graham were held this morning at 10 o’clock from St. Malachy’s Catholic church at Beattie. Fr. Wm. Nelligan was in charge and interment was made in Beattie cemetery.

Robert C. Graham died September 20, 1952 at Beattie, having reached the age of 79 years 5 months and 3 days. He was born at Winterset, Iowa, April 17, 1873. He came to Kansas in 1844 and settled in what is now Summerfield.

On August 15, 1895 he was united in marriage to Amanda A. Peterman, to which union five children were born. Mr. Graham had lived in Marshall county for more than 47 years and recently retired from farming and carpentry. He was a member of St. Malachy’s church, Beattie.

Rosary services were held Sunday, September 21, at the Smith funeral home.

Survivors include his widow, Amanda; two sons, John W. Graham, Beatrice, Neb., and Roy Graham, Oketo; and three daughters, Mrs. S. W. Bull, Marysville; Mrs. Fred Heiserman, Oketo; and Mrs. Milton Ruyle, Liberty, Neb.

Transcriber's note: Transcribed as published, the "1844" in which the family migrated to Kansas is obviously incorrect and is probably "1884". Despite what this obituary says, his place of birth by census is consistently Illinois.

Rites For R. C. Graham Are Held Monday Morning

Funeral services for R. C. Graham, 79, long-time Marshall county resident who died Saturday, September 20, 1952, at his home in Beattie, were held at St. Malachy’s Catholic church there Monday morning.

Fr. William Nelligan, church priest, officiated, and burial was in the church cemetery. Death was caused by a cerebral hemorrhage.

He was born April 17, 1873 at Winterset, Ia., and moved to Summerfield community with his parents when he was a boy.

August 5, 1895 he was wed at Marysville to Miss Amanda Peterman. She, with the following, survive: His daughters, Mrs. S. W. Bull, Marysville; Mrs. Fred Heiserman, Oketo; Mrs. Milton Ruyle, Liberty, Neb.; his sons, Roy Graham, Oketo, and John W. Graham, Beatrice, Neb.; 11 grandchildren; one great grandchild; his sisters, Mrs. A. W. Glick, Topeka; Mrs. Jesse Schilling, Summerfield; Mrs. H. H. Kone, Bonner Springs, his brothers, George Graham, Winfield; Dave Graham, Boise, Idaho, and Frank Graham, Marysville.

He was a member of St. Malachy’s Catholic church.

Several of the Out East folks attended the funeral of the late Bert Graham. The family has the sympathy of all the Out East folks.
