Page 3, Column 4Cortez J. Lynch, a pioneer resident of Iowa, passed away April 8th at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Chas. H. Neidt of Truro. Mr. Lynch was born March 12, 1848 in Norfolk county, Virginia. At the age of 25 years he came to Iowa and has made his home in this state ever since. Forty-six years of this time he made his home in East Des Moines, where he was engaged in the grocery business.
In 1880 he was united in marriage to Hannah Owens and to this union were born five daughters, three of whom have preceded him, two at the ages of four and six years, and the third, Laura Lynch Clingan of California, in 1919. During the past six years, he has resided near Truro. Last September, he and his wife went to California, where they spent the winter with their son-in-law, Fay Clingan and two grandsons, Robert and Carroll. They had been home just ten days, when Mr. Lynch was stricken with apoplexy and two days later passed away.
He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Mrs. Bernice Slocum of Livermore and Mrs. Lucile Neidt of Truro; one sister, Mrs. J. B. Racken of Des Moines, a number of distant relatives and a host of friends.
