Greta (Korver) Carver Mount of Pella, 95, died Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009. Services were held Friday, Dec. 11, 2009 in the Second Reformed Church, Pella with Rev. Sophie Mathonnet-Vader Well officiating. Dr. Davis Folkerts was organist, and Mark Babcock sang “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art.”

Honorary bearers were Sherrill Graham and Phyllis Willems.

Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery, Pella.

Greta (Korver) Carver, the only child of Garrett and Estella (Carpenter) Korver, was born June 14, 1914 in East Peru; however, she grew up spending much time in Pella, the hometown of her grandparents.

The family moved to Des Moines where Greta attended grade school and graduated from North High School as a member of the National Honor Society in 1931. She obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Drake University in 1940, and additional graduate studies through the years. She taught in Hamilton, Panora, and Davenport in Iowa and in Moline and Highland Park, Ill. From 1971-1973 she served as secretary and vice president of the Chicago Area Business Education Association. She retired from teaching in 1976.

While attending Drake University, Greta met her future husband, Roy Edgar Mount, in an English class and they were married on July 25, 1944 in Prescott, Ariz. where he was serving in the United States Army Air Corps. Roy was raised in Stuart and graduated from Stuart High School.

In 1978 they moved to the Pella Manor and maintained other homes in Vail, Colo., and Mesa, Ariz. In November 2000 they moved into the Long Term Care Unit of the Pella Regional Health Center. Roy died on Dec. 9, 2000; the couple had been married 56 years. She continued to lived in the Long Term Care Unit on Team 4 for nine years until the time of her death.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy; her father-in-law and mother-in-law.

Survivors include her daughter Margaret (Jerrell) Davis of Taos, N.M., and her son, Roy Edgar (Ed) (Janet) (Mauk) Mount of Newton, and four granddaughters.

Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home of Pella was in charge of arrangements.

Coordinator's note: Transcribed as published, the deceased has a Madison County Birth Record under the surname "Greta Minerva Carver" and her parents gravestone says "Carver". Why the surname "Korver" was published is unknown.
